General Call for Participation Guidelines

  • With Praxis as the Annual Meeting theme, we invite research presentations in a variety of formats, including in-person and online.
  • General Call submissions can be about any topic related to Anthropology.
  • All Group session timeslots are 90 minutes in length.
  • Individual session timeslots vary, visit the Submission Types page for more information.
  • We are not offering the option to submit individually volunteered papers for 2024. Please visit the What’s New page to view options on how to form an oral presentation session.
  • Selection for virtual-live presentations are highly competitive due to the limited space on the program.
  • All session participants must be members of AAA and register for the Annual Meeting by September 27, 11:59pm ET.
  • The accept/decline notifications will be sent the week of July 22.

There are eight submission types for the General Call for Participation. Three individual submission options and five group options:

Individual

  • Flash Presentation (in-person or virtual)
  • Poster presentation (in-person only)
  • Talk- Pre-recorded (Virtual pre-recorded only)

Group

  • Oral Presentation Sessions (in-person only)
  • Roundtable/ Town Hall (in-person or virtual live)
  • Conversation or Debate (in-person or virtual live)
  • Interview (in-person or virtual live)
  • Podcast (Virtual pre-recorded only)

Individually Volunteered Papers
We do not have the option for individually volunteered papers (IVPs) this year. Feedback from members, attendees, and the meetings task force has indicated that these constructed sessions have not been consistently successful. Learn more about this decision.

Individuals can still present their paper in a group through the Oral Presentation Submission. However, participants are responsible for connecting with other paper presenters and form an oral presentation panel before submission. We are encouraging all to collaborate with your colleagues to form oral presentation sessions through the following ways:
