The AAA provides financial assistance programs to help with the cost of the Annual Meeting. Each program provides support for various groups of people, please check the eligibility requirements for the program before applying.

This waiver provides complimentary membership and annual meeting registration to enrolled citizens of federally-recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribes. Learn more or apply for the American Indian and Alaska Native Tribal Wavier. The open period for this waiver is ongoing but the application can take 7-14 days to review and approve.

The section guest waiver provides each AAA section one complimentary membership and annual meeting registration to use for qualified individuals who would not usually attend the Annual Meeting or participate in section sponsored events. Eligibility requirements for this waiver are a non-member participant of a section sponsored event who are anthropologist outside of the US or Canada or a non-anthropologist. These waivers are an effort to increase AAA members’ access to international and community-based participants. Sections must have filed their annual reports to issue this waiver.

Forms are completed and submitted by Section Presidents. To request the form, Section Presidents can reach out to AAA Membership. The deadline for Section Presidents to submit this waiver is August 30, 11:59pm ET. Participants interested in applying for this wavier should reach out to their section well before August 30 in order to be considered.

The executive program chair waiver assists with the Annual Meeting registration fee and waves the requirement to become an AAA member. This wavier is only available to anthropologists outside of the U.S. and Canada or non-anthropologists who are presenting at the Annual Meeting. Only participants in organized sessions may be eligible for this waiver.

  • Deadline to apply for the Executive Program Chair Waiver is August 30, 11:59pm ET
  • Waiver accept/decline notifications will be sent the week of September 16.

This program provides an opportunity for AAA members to support peer anthropologists, who are presenting in the Annual Meeting, by helping to offset either their AAA membership or their Annual Meeting registration. AAA members and non-members in need of support can apply for this opportunity. Completion of the application is not a guarantee of support. To be considered for this program, complete the Anthropologist Support Program form by August 30, 11:59pm ET



Graduate student volunteers play a vital role in the success of the Annual Meeting by providing support in various ways, like assisting with registration, wayfinding, and helping at the AAA booth. Graduate students may apply to volunteer at the Annual Meeting to have their registration fee reimbursed. The volunteer application for graduate students will be open July 8 through September 27.  Notifications will be sent out the week of September 23.

There are limited volunteer opportunities available, completion of the application does not guarantee placement in a volunteer slot.

The volunteer application form will be available in early July.

The Undergraduate Cohort Program provides Department Services Program (DSP) partners the opportunity to gift their class of undergraduates a complimentary one-year AAA + NASA section membership and AAA Annual Meeting registration. Codes are distributed to DSP Chairs yearly, but if you need the code again, you can either fill out the application linked below, or contact us. The amount of undergraduate students who can utilize the code is unlimited and up to the DSP chair’s discretion for dispersal. This is of no additional cost to DSP partners. Participating DSP partners are noted by a DSP badge in their respective listing in the AnthroGuide. Is your institution not a DSP partner? Invite your chair to join! Graduate students are ineligible for this program, but may be eligible for free membership under the DSP New and Recent Graduate program.

The childcare grant helps to enable AAA members, with dependent children, to attend the Annual Meeting in-person. The purpose of this grant is to offset some of the childcare costs by reimbursing childcare specific costs incurred during on-site attendance of the meeting. We will be awarding a limited number of childcare grants, up to $250 each, to members who registered and attended the annual meeting in-person and submitted proper documentation. The deadline to submit your application and documentation is December 20, 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Documentation required: Childcare provider name, service dates, dependent name and relationship to submitter, type of service/description of out-of-pocket costs and amount of out-of-pocket costs.
